Motorcyclists captured by train: seriously injured – Baden-Württemberg

Bad Säckingen (dpa / lsw) – A motorcyclist drove to a level crossing in Bad Säckingen (Waldshut district) despite the barriers being closed and was hit by a train there. The 18-year-old was seriously injured in the accident on Monday morning, a police spokesman said. The young man was brought to a Swiss hospital by rescue helicopter. According to the information, the Hochrheinbahn was blocked in both directions until around 9:30 a.m. after the accident. The train driver suffered a shock.

According to a report from the police, the young man had bypassed the closed barrier after a first train had passed the level crossing. A second approaching train then caught him. The 18-year-old’s motorcycle was no longer permitted, it said. All six passengers on the train were uninjured. The train and motorcycle suffered damage of around 20,000 euros.
