The man in his 20s lost the note on the spot. According to the police, reckless driving will probably result in a prison sentence.
A male motorbike driver in his 20s was stopped on E18 in Askim on Friday evening.
The speed limit on the spot is 100 kilometers per hour, but the person in question was measured at 263 kilometers per hour, the police in Øst tweet.
– It was someone from the emergency police who observed the motorcycle, which also had no license plate. There is no suspicion of intoxication, but he lost his driver’s license on the spot, task leader in the East police district, Randi Nymoen-Jahren, to VG.
– Basically, this is what gets you to prison, but we don’t know what the judge says in the end.
Drove onto side roads
Nymoen-Jahren says that the driver tried to evade the police by driving onto side roads.
In the end, the traffic picture made sure that he had to stop, and the police then pulled up next to the motorcycle, says the task leader.
– It was not a police chase, but an observation that was followed up, says Nymoen-Jahren, and adds that there was no drama when the police stopped him.
– Unpredictable
She says that if obstacles had arisen for the driver, things could have gone extremely wrong for both him and any oncoming traffic.
– The way things are now, it can be fine exactly where you are in the low terrain, but in the high terrain there can be ice. It’s unpredictable, and when you’re also 163 kilometers over the speed limit, you don’t have time to take the assessment you’re supposed to do, concludes Nymoen-Jahren.
