At 8.35pm on Thursday evening, the police reported that the man involved in the accident had died.
– Health personnel were quickly on the scene and started with life-saving first aid, but life could not be saved, said the police.
The man was in his early 20s.
Relatives have been notified.
Drove off the road
It was at 18.18 on Thursday that the police received a report that a motorcycle driver had driven off the road at Åsskardshøgda in Surnadal.
– It is a serious accident, said operations manager at Møre and Romsdal police district, Per Åge Ferstad to NRK after the accident.
There was only one person involved in the accident.
– There were several bicycles in a procession, but we do not know for the time being if there were witnesses to the incident, says Ferstad. The cause of the accident is not known.
The road was blocked for hours
The road was closed for hours after the accident.
Investigators from the police and the accident team have been on the scene to carry out technical investigations.
At 01.30 on the night of Friday, the police announced that the investigations had been completed and that the road was open again.
Rindal municipality had an open canteen at the junior high school on Thursday evening for those who wanted to meet after the accident. The crisis team was also present.
The accident happened at Åsskardshøgda in Surnadal.
