Motorcycle accident: Firefighter volunteer dies

(ANSA) – REGGIO EMILIA, JULY 31 – Fatal accident in the Reggio Emilia Apennines along the Sp98, on the Fondovalle between Viano and Carpineti. The victim was a 28-year-old woman, Jessica Lanzi, resident in Luzzara – in the Bassa – well-known for her volunteer work with the civil protection and firefighters. She was the coordinator of the Carpineti section, the town where she was originally from and an active member of the Luzzara detachment of firefighters. The accident occurred around 7:40. The young woman was riding her motorbike and was travelling from Carpineti towards Viano when – according to initial reconstructions – she hit the mirror of a van coming from the opposite lane while overtaking. In an attempt to get back on the road, she lost control of the vehicle and ended up under another truck in the correct lane. She died instantly. The local police of the Tresinaro Secchia unit were on site to carry out investigations. The magistrate on duty Giulia Galfano has opened an investigation file to ascertain the dynamics, causes and possible responsibilities. “Jessica, always available and present in the area, has dedicated part of her life to supporting the community, with attention and commitment. On every occasion she was available to help colleagues and others”, the Fire Department remembers her. “The commander and the entire provincial command of Reggio Emilia joins the pain of the family and all the volunteers of the detachment, in this very painful moment”.
