Motorcade against high fuel prices! Demo announced throughout Hamburg

Since the beginning of the Ukraine war, fuel prices in Germany have climbed to a record high. A protest has now been announced in Hamburg.

Hamburg – Not easy times for drivers: Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine fuel prices in Germany have climbed to a record high. In Hamburg announced now, however, an absurd protest against it.

As the police confirmed to TAG24 on Friday, a private individual had registered a demo for Saturday evening.

According to current information, around 750 to 1000 participants and around 500 vehicles are expected in the motorcade.

The organizer indicated a route across Hamburg. The starting point is the Aral gas station on Wilhelm-Iwan-Ring in Allermöhe at around 8 p.m. From there it goes via the Hamburg city area, Hafencity, Altona Sülldorf and Rissen to Wedel in Schleswig-Holstein. The demo is not scheduled to end until around 1 a.m.

Traffic delays are to be expected, the police spokesman said. It is not known exactly what the demands of the demonstrators are.

In the past few days, however, there had been clear criticism time and again for statements in which the rise in fuel prices was complained about.

For example, Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans (44, CDU) published a video in which he called on the government to act. “This does not only affect low earners, but the many hard-working people who have to refuel, who fill up their diesel vehicles, who drive to work, who take the children to sports,” said Hans in his justification. He called for a corresponding “fuel price brake”.

A discussion then broke out about whether, in times of war, one should get upset about rising fuel prices at all. Satirist Jan Böhmermann (41) also joined the discussion via Twitter: “Gas price brake ready to use immediately,” he wrote about the image of a 100 km/h sign (spelling adopted).

And: “Putin, stop it! Tobias Hans wants to remain prime minister of Saarland!”
