KTM increasingly serious about working on Indonesia’s two-wheeled automotive market. After being postponed due to the pandemic, finally this Austrian motorbike manufacturer has a factory in Gresik, East Java.
So, with the presence of these facilities, will KTM add variants in the motorbike class with a smaller engine capacity?
KTM has a motor sport to target the lower segment. They have released the KTM Duke 125. In terms of physicality, the dimensions are the same as the older brother, Duke 200. KTM also has an awesome fairing version, RC 125.
In Indonesia, the naked sports market and the 150 cc fairing are quite competitive, this is what PT PT. Penta Jaya Laju Motor (PJLM) as the official distributor of this Austrian manufacturer brand to present motorbikes with engine capacities smaller or below 200 cc.
“KTM has a motorbike under 200 cc that is 125 cc, that’s actually for the European market, and parts of Asia are starting to be marketed. But in Indonesia we see that this segment is less popular, except for the duck type (engines under 150 cc-Red), “said the President Director of PT PJLM Kristianto Goenadi at the KTM showroom, Jl. Ciputat Raya No. 8, Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta, Friday (28/8/2020).
“I haven’t seen the 125 cc sports motorbike segment in Indonesia, generally they (other manufacturers) play at 150 cc. So we haven’t looked in that direction, cc below 200 cc to bring here,” Kris said.
Motor factory KTM in Indonesia it is officially operational. The first motorbike to be assembled locally was the KTM 390 Adventure.
The factory, which is located in Gresik, East Java, is said to have a production capacity of over 2,000 units per month. However, Kris admitted that the use of production capacity is still small, although the details are not disclosed.
The motorbike products that will be assembled locally are motorbikes KTM under 400 cc, including Duke 200 cc, Duke 250 cc, RC 390 and Duke 390 cc.
