Motor Lublin – Górnik Zabrze 1:0. Third time in a row in the back

In the 8th round of the PKO Ekstraklasa, Górnik Zabrze lost to Motor Lublin 0:1. This was our team’s third defeat in a row.

Compared to the match with Lechia, Jan Urban made one change to the starting eleven. Namely, Kryspin Szcześniak appeared from the very first minutes at the expense of Manu Sanchez, who sat on the bench. However, Rafał Janicki and Filipe Nascimento were missing from the bench.

The first half could not captivate even the most ardent fans of the Ekstraklasa. We rarely saw any fluid action, goal-scoring situations or shots. The hosts, who were the first to attack, looked slightly better. In the 7th minute, this earned them a free kick just outside the penalty area. Fortunately, there was no Modrić in the Motor team, and Wolski, who was taking this set piece, moved the ball high over the crossbar. It became much more dangerous 60 seconds later, when after a header by Mraz, the ball landed on the goal post defended by Michał Szromnik. Górnik most often tried to attack on the left side, where the duo of Erik Janża and Taofeek Ismaheel had. In the 16th minute, Janża, with a nice move, launched Ismaheel on the left wing, who broke through with the ball into the hosts’ penalty area and played just in front of the goal to Luka Zahovic, but the Slovenian was unable to shoot on target. Zabrze created an even better opportunity after fifteen minutes. Janża was again the passer, and Simon missed the ball, which created a situation for Lukas Podolski. Unfortunately, the Lublin goalkeeper Brkić had the upper hand in this situation. Zabrze created a good chance just before the break. Now it was Podolski who delivered the ball into the penalty area, and Zahović, who was closing the action, moved the ball over the crossbar.

During the break, neither coach decided to make any changes. The second half began with a chance for Motor, fortunately after Mraz’s header Szromnik showed off his reflexes and parried the ball out of bounds. Unfortunately, the home team did not waste another opportunity. In the 49th minute, Simon worked out a position to shoot and sent the ball precisely into the corner of the Zabrze goal. Our team, quite dazed, allowed a lot at that moment. In the 50th minute, it could have been 2:0, but the ball hit the post after Mraz’s shot. A few moments later, Górnik finally got the upper hand and worked out a free kick opportunity. However, Janża’s shot went over the crossbar. Zabrze had a very hard time creating opportunities, but they created a few chances. In the 56th minute, Ismaheel crossed the ball into the penalty area, but Wojtuszek lacked a good header. In the 64th minute, Janża sent the ball into the penalty area, and there, in a bit of confusion, Patrik Hellebrand got to the ball. However, the Czech shot into the middle and Brkić had no problems intervening. Lukas Podolski’s attempt from outside the penalty area flew over the goal. Jan Urban made more changes, with debutants Samir Bakis and Aleksandeer Tobolik appearing on the pitch. However, Górnik could not find a way to defend the hosts, and in the meantime the hosts were close to increasing the score. In the 82nd minute, Szromnik instinctively defended Ndaye’s header. There were no more goals until the end and the third defeat in a row became a fact.

After this match, Zabrze remains with 8 points. In the next round, we will have a football feast, because in a week we will have the Silesian Classic.
