The ordeal of Marc Marquez it’s officially over. After nine months and three surgeries, the six-time world champion MotoGP he is ready to get back on the saddle, already from the Portuguese GP scheduled in Portimao on 18 April.
The final go-ahead came from the doctors of the Hospital Ruber Internacional in Madrid.
The social comment of Marquez: “Today the doctors visited me and gave the green light to go back to racing. It has been a difficult 9 months, with moments of uncertainty and ups and downs, and now, finally, I will be able to enjoy my passion again! See you next week in Portimao! “.
The decision was in the air after the Spaniard’s name had been included among those summoned by the medical commission ahead of Portuguese GP along with those of Jack Miller and Iker Lecuona, fresh from surgery for behavioral syndrome.
The Portuguese commission’s visit was scheduled for April 12, but the verdict came from Spain 48 hours early. Already a few weeks ago, in Portugal, Marquez had already carried out a test on the Honda RC213V-S.
Now the curiosity is all to understand the level of competitiveness of Marquez, whose nightmare began on 19 July 2020 with the fall during the Spanish GP, the first of the 2020 World Championship, in which Marc had remedied the fracture to the humerus of the right arm. The attempt to return in record time became a boomerang because in the following days Marquez would have suffered a stress break from the titanium plate that had been inserted in his arm.
A new surgery therefore marked the official end of a season that had never started, while on December 3 there was another eight-hour operation for a pseudarthrosis found at the fracture site, with replacement of the titanium plate and autologous transplantation of a vein coming from the thigh, which was followed by an infection of the right arm bone.
The expected recovery time was six months, but Marquez once again managed to forge ahead. Now the word goes to the track. Honda needs their leader after a difficult start to the season to catch up on Yamaha and Ducati, but Marc will inevitably be given time to get back in shape.
