MotoGP, Marini: “Before the start I forgot about Valentino on the grid”

If his teammate, Enea Bastiani, was the best rookie in the race, with a tenth place, Luca Marini struggled more, finishing off the points in 16th position. A result that cannot have satisfied him.

Honestly, I am sorry for the race, not in particular for the final position – said Luca – more for the pace I would have expected faster. I suffered a lot, especially from the grip. It was not easy to stop the bike in the last part of the corner entry and also in the middle of the corner. I was slow in all the corners of the track ”.

Was it because of the position on the bike and your height?
“No, not for the position also because it has improved from the tests. I have to work a little more to be able to feel the bike totally mine but I am close to it. Now with the team we have to analyze the data, luckily there is another race here and also a good opportunity to improve ”.

What emotions did you feel when you found yourself on the track with your brother? Have you talked about the race?
“Yes, we talked a lot both before and after the race. I saw it in interviews on television and we talked a little after the race was over. It didn’t go very well for him either. When I was on the starting grid I didn’t think much about it, I was focused on the Grand Prix. I forgot him momentarily and I think he did the same ”.

How was your departure?
“My starting device is the same as that of the other Ducatis, identical to that of Enea and slightly different from those of the factories. Mine went quite well, I wasn’t particularly fast at the start. My speed wasn’t good at first, it felt like I didn’t have power”.

Do you think you can draw any conclusions from Aeneas’ data?
“I will definitely have to see Enea’s data because we have the same bike. It is easier to compare my data with yours than with others. Even if our physical structure is different, the bike is identical ”.

Do you think that if you had started later you would have managed to keep another pace and maybe finish the race higher in the standings or it wouldn’t have changed much considering your pace?
“No, maybe I would have lost fewer seconds in the first two laps but it would have changed little. The final position would have been the same because I really lacked pace and speed ”.
