MotoGP goes into the “next round”

Spielberg, Murtal district: After the historic Formula 1 kick-off at the beginning of July 2020, the “MotoGP” is now also at the gates of the Murtal with two race weekends.

The authorities and emergency services are sticking to the tried and tested security concept and are ready.

Just one month after the Formula 1 double Grand Prix, the myWorld Motorcycle Grand Prix of Austria (August 16, 2020) and the BMW M Grand Prix of Styria (August 23, 2020) are now also hosting the motorcycle world championship two race weekends at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Similar to the Formula 1 races that have already been completed, the “MotoGP” will also take place without spectators and under strict safety requirements and precautions – in view of the current corona pandemic.

“Thanks to the Formula 1 weekends that we have already successfully completed this year, we can now build on a tried and tested and functioning safety concept. The concept, which has been adapted to the current situation, has proven its worth, which is why we, as the locally responsible authority, will stick to it again for the next two weekends. In addition, as before, we are relying on a well-networked administrative management team with the involvement of all experts and emergency organizations ”, says Mag. Tina Urschinger of the Murtal district authority.

The emergency services also expect a situation picture similar to that of the 71st Formula 1 season opener at the beginning of July and are prepared for all eventualities: “The Formula 1 fans have already shown us their discipline. Now it’s the turn of the MotoGP fans. Here, too, we are confident that the motorsport fans will behave in the same disciplined manner and watch the races with the same enthusiasm, but from the comfort of their own home. Due to extensive blocking measures, there will be nothing to see on site anyway ”, said the police operations manager and Murtal district police commander, Lieutenant Colonel Günther Perger.

As was the case a month ago, on the next two weekends you can expect officially ordered traffic measures and closures as well as checkpoint controls by organizers, security and the police. Access to the spacious, cordoned-off race track is only possible with accreditation. In addition, the Red Cross (Knittelfeld district office) and the fire brigade (Knittelfeld area fire brigade command) are once again on duty in and around the ring area.
