MotoGP, Australian GP (Phillip Island) 2024: free practice results

One-two for the Marquez brothers in the Phillip Island pre-qualifying sessions, held on a dry track after the rain which forced the cancellation of Free Practice. Marc best time in 1:27.770 ahead of his brother Alex and Bezzecchi. 4th Martin, 5th Bagnaia, who reached the top 10 on the last useful attempt. DRIVERS QUALIFIED FOR Q2

Between the rain falling from the sky and the animals walking around the track (geese on several occasions and even a hare) it wasn’t an easy day. Especially for who, how Pecco Bagnaiahe wasn’t happy with the setup of his bike. The initial session canceled due to excess water on the track It messed up the teams’ schedules. Australia does not deny itself, but it is precisely in uncertainty that someone like Marc Marquez almost always manages to find the right spark. Martin and Bagnaia separated by 46 thousandths

Third place was excellent Marco Bezzecchifirst of the Ducatis (incidentally, the 2023 version has fared better so far than the official 2024). Between Martin e Bagnaia the confrontation was resolved with one handful of thousandths to divide them: 46 to be precisein favor of Jorge. But the Spaniard seemed in better shape while Bagnaia struggled to reach the top ten. Martin, who started off too motivated (he crashed immediately) quickly found a good rhythm, while Pecco abandoned the first bike to seek better confidence with the second. The result was not very convincing. There is work to be done in his garage, to find a setup that will enable him to closely mark his opponent in the championship.

Vinales better than the Aprilias

It’s a picture in progress, because weather, asphalt and new tires are variables not to be overlooked. It is no coincidence that in these conditions the sensitivity of Marc Marquez emerges who, among other things, has already won on this track. As Vinaleswho brought his own Aprilia in sixth place.
