Race format changes MotoGP 2023 It’s back happening and will start next August at the British GP.

On Monday (17/7) afternoon, FIM decided to change the free practice format to be more concise.

If again the first free practice (FP1) and the second free practice (FP2) are held on the same day, they will now be separated.

Dorna determined that Friday’s race starts with the FP1 session with a duration of 45 minutes. The FP1 session took place in the morning.

Then in the afternoon, MotoGP 2023 racers have a Practice session or practice with a time of 60 minutes.

So, this practice session is then used as a benchmark for drivers to qualify automatically for Q2 or must first pass Q1.

Then FP2 which is usually held on Friday afternoon will be shifted to Saturday morning. The difference is, FP2 only lasts 30 minutes.

This new format automatically reduces the duration of FP2 which was originally running for 60 minutes. Then, the follow-up sessions are Qualification I (Q1) and Qualification 2 (Q2), each of which lasts 15 minutes.
