The Opening Cup of the 2024 MX Championship held yesterday on the El Jabalí Autodrome track, in which 35 riders participated, was the first competition of the year organized by Motocross El Salvador and endorsed by the Salvadoran Motorcycle Federation (Fesamoto).
This event was the preview of the National Championship, which is scheduled to begin with the first date on March 17.
At the end of the competition, among the results of the day, Fernando Jacobo won first place in the Enduro category with 50 points, followed by the brothers Carlos and Jairo Valle, who placed second and third, respectively, with 42 units each.
While in the Dual Purpose category, the winner was Fernando Meléndez with 42 points; Diego Menjívar was in second place with 45 and Damian Rivera was third with 40.
Elizabeth Bermúdez, representative of Motocross El Salvador, explained that the objective of holding the cup as a prelude to the main competition is to activate the participants.
“For us, organizing the first race of the year aims to reactivate the drivers so that they are prepared for the demands of the arrival of the national date, which does provide points for the ranking,” said Bermúdez.
Although the number of participants was not what they expected, Elizabeth assured that the absence of some motocross figures was due to the fact that they traveled to Guatemala to participate in the National Championship of the neighboring country.
“Although this time we have few runners because some are in Guatemala participating in the first date of the national there, that did not prevent us from meeting the objective, and we had runners from four years old to a 75-year-old runner who continues being an example for everyone,” said Elizabeth.
Regarding the National Championship, the representative of Motocross El Salvador indicated that for that event they expect 75 riders to participate, including some from Honduras and Guatemala.
Regarding the results obtained by the Salvadoran delegation in the Guatemalan National Championship, the highlights were Marco Carranza, who finished in second place in the Junior category, while Lucas Servellón was seventh in the same category.
For their part, Boris Flores (MX2B), Rodrigo Jacir (65cc A) and Ricardo Cuéllar (MX2C) were winners in their respective categories. Ricardo Solorzano (MX2C) and Ricardo Rivas (65cc B) finished in second place; Meanwhile, Bryan Carballo was ninth in the MX2 C category.
