Extra attention to this theme is desperately needed. More than 300,000 women in the age category 15-64 have a thyroid disorder (RIVM). A large proportion of them are therefore in the so-called ‘fertile’ age. But what many do not know is that a good thyroid function is essential for conception, an uncomplicated pregnancy and the proper development of the unborn child. Fortunately, with the right knowledge, control and/or medication, this can often be managed in the right direction.
Webinar
dr. Tim Korevaar was therefore happy to participate in an information webinar in this area. He is not only a doctor at Erasmus MC, but also co-chair of the American guidelines committee for thyroid diseases and pregnancy and coordinator of the Consortium for Thyroid and Pregnancy. He is happy to share the available knowledge: “The webinar is not only interesting for thyroid patients, but also for healthcare providers. Because, especially in the last twenty years, great strides have been made in this area.”
The following topics will be discussed during the webinar:
- the role of thyroid hormone in getting pregnant and being pregnant;
- the approach to a desire to have children and pregnancy with an underactive thyroid;
- the approach to a desire to have children and pregnancy with an overactive thyroid gland;
- the T3/T4 combination treatment;
- TPO antibodies;
- subclinical hypothyroidism.
The webinar can be seen on the SON . YouTube channel.
