Mother’s Successful Cancer Prevention: A Story of Early Detection and Prevention

In a previous article, I told you the story of Xiaojing’s triple-negative breast cancer. Today I want to tell you the story of my mother’s successful cancer prevention. Not only did she have regular health check-ups, she was even able to proactively identify latent cancer cells in “precancerous lesions” and prevent future complications~

I have to say that she is the “model student” in all the cancer stories I have seen🏆(Readers who want to know more about triple-negative breast cancer can read my previous article Nuanyang in the Cancer Ward)👇👇

One day during my freshman year in high school, my mother suddenly told me that she felt something near the lower edge of her left breast. “It felt like a small tumor that could slide, but it didn’t hurt.” My mother was a little worried at the time. Mentioned this to me.

benign tumor

So my mother and I went to a hospital near our home to register for an outpatient visit. When the doctor performed a breast ultrasound examination on my mother, he unexpectedly told us:“Miss, your left breast is normal and has no abnormality. However, from the image, we can see that there is a 2-centimeter-sized tumor on the upper edge of your right breast, which should be a benign fibroadenoma.”

“This is a very common benign tumor. You only need to follow up once every six months or a year.” After hearing the doctor’s diagnosis, my mother and I were full of questions and felt that we had got it right 😂

A week later, my mother was still worried. After all, a 2-centimeter tumor should not be underestimated. So my mother went north to Hexin Hospital for further confirmation.

“Miss, this is a very common benign breast tumor, which has a lot to do with your own constitution. But don’t worry, you can just come back for follow-up in six months.” The doctor read the imaging data of my mother’s previous medical treatment and passed After palpation, I told my mother the diagnosis.

“Fortunately it’s not cancer!”My mother and I finally breathed a sigh of relief~

An unexpected turn

After more than two months of this, my mother suddenly told me one day:“I still feel like something is weird, and I always feel that something is not right. Although my breasts don’t have any abnormality or pain now, I think I’d better check it out again…”My mother’s sixth sense has always been very accurate. When I was little, I couldn’t escape her eyes whenever I did something bad🤣

So, my mother went back to the nearby hospital to see the same doctor again.“The tumor on the upper edge of the right breast that you mentioned last time has indeed appeared as an irregular-shaped lesion. I will first help you arrange a breast puncture and use a fine needle to aspirate the tissue fluid inside to identify whether there are malignant cancer cells. .”The doctor’s words immediately set off alarm bells in our hearts🚨🚨

“Your breast puncture report shows that the tumor on the upper edge of your right breast really contains malignant cells and is currently in a state of inflammation.”

“I suggest that you perform surgery to remove the tumor. We can only confirm whether it is cancer after sending it for testing.” My mother and I were stunned for a moment. We couldn’t believe that such a big change had occurred in less than half a year.

Anxiety syndrome waiting for lab reports

As a freshman in high school at the time, I felt unfamiliar and frightened by the word “cancer” because at that time, the number of people suffering from cancer and the information about cancer were not as common as they are now.I just feel that the word “cancer” is like the end of the world.

I cried the whole time when I got home, terrified of losing my mom. My mother comforted me instead:“If the final test result is really cancer, then I will admit it! After all, I have tried my best to prevent it. Even if it is cancer, it can be considered early detection. As long as it is treated immediately, everything can be done in time~”(My previous article from Prevention is better than cure➡️early detection and timely treatment was actually partially inspired by my mother’s story💡)

Shocking “Precancerous Lesions”

“Miss, you are really lucky! This tumor is a precancerous lesion, and precancerous lesions are not the same as cancer. If it is discovered later, it may continue to deteriorate and become carcinoma in situ (stage zero).”

My mother and I were really relieved at that time🤦I had never heard of the term “precancerous lesions” before this, but now that I think about it, I think this process was really thrilling!

Fortunately, my mother was alert at the time and ran after the doctor~ Otherwise, the consequences would have been disastrous if it had dragged on any longer🙈

Unknowingly, 10 years have passed. My mother still undergoes breast ultrasound every six months and mammograms every two years. Even the doctor couldn’t help but advise my mother when he saw my mother returning for a visit: “It’s been 10 years and it’s safe.” It’s time, relax, you don’t need such intensive follow-up visits~” Even the doctor knows my mother 😂

🌟I will continue to share my mother’s “exemplary deeds” with you in the next article~
