– It’s grotesque every time it happens. I break down every time. Now Michael must rest in peace. Please leave his grave alone, says Kristin Maria George Bahary to Dagbladet.
Bahary is several times a week at the gravesite of her son Michael Jensen, to light candles and lay new flowers. Michael died suddenly in February, aged just 26, after being hit by a train.

Since her son was buried at the end of February, she has found his grave destroyed, up to several times a week.

The grave is often trampled down, and there are clear marks after unauthorized persons have kicked soil over the decorations placed on the grave, says Bahary.
Once the family also found a dog’s poo in the cemetery, she says.
Bahary has several pictures on his phone which are supposed to show that the vandalism is repeated.
The vandalism happens so often that Michael’s siblings cannot bear the thought of visiting their brother’s grave, she says.
Shaken by vandalism at children’s graves
His little sister, Maria, writes to Dagbladet that she is incredibly sorry.
– I don’t understand how a person can behave like that in a place that is intended as a resting place, she writes.
Michael’s younger brother, Nikolaj, writes that he wants his older brother to find peace.

Former drug addict
Bahary is open that her son had a past with drugs and that he sometimes led a hard life. Therefore, he may have made some enemies along the way.
In the last year before he passed away, he lived in Denmark and was drug-free, according to his mother.
Dagbladet spoke to Bahary about his son’s former criminal life in a case that was published in January – about a month before he died.
Now she and the family despair that Michael will not be allowed to rest in peace.
– It is taking a toll on the family. In the midst of grief, we always have to go and look at the grave to make sure that vandalism has not been done, she says.
She emphasizes that they appreciate anyone who wants to visit Michael’s grave, but those who vandalize “can stay away”.

– Nasty and disrespectful
Church warden Gunnlaug Brenne at the Indre Østfold ecclesiastical joint council tells Smaalenenes Avis that she has not been informed about the events.
– I have not heard of this specific case, but it would be very nice if she came into the office and had a chat with us about this, she encourages and continues:
– In very serious cases, the person concerned should report it. It is also what we recommend if there is a lot of vandalism and very rough. If she suspects that it is personally directed, then she should contact the police about it, says Brenne.

She adds that it is regrettable when such things happen.
Bahary herself tells Dagbladet that she will report the case, if it does not stop on its own.
– I had hoped that it would stop by itself. It is disgusting and disrespectful to both Michael and the survivors, she says.
