A 35-year-old woman from Zevenbergen was sentenced to ten years in prison on Thursday for poisoning her eleven-year-old son. She gave him a fatal overdose of heavy painkillers.
The court ruled that the woman was guilty of manslaughter. She also consciously took the risk that the boy would die because of her. The OM previously demanded twelve years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment for murder.
The judge did not consider it proven that the woman really wanted her son dead. According to experts, the woman suffers from a disease in which someone pretends that a child has a condition, when this is not the case at all. For years, the woman would have made her son sick.
Tbs would therefore not be necessary, because the chance of recurrence would be small. However, the woman will be under supervision after her prison sentence.
The child died in February 2020 from a cocktail of various painkillers, a sleeping pill and an antidepressant. All those drugs were not prescribed for the boy.
Woman denied, but was filmed
The court is convinced that the mother administered the substances. The woman denied that. She thought her son had taken the pills himself. She kept them in the house for her own use.
A camera system in the child’s bedroom filmed the woman administering medication to her son. She herself says that she gave the boy nothing but paracetamol.
