Mother of man shot dead by police: ‘Tim didn’t stand a chance’

Jolande Oosterbaan from Dordrecht, the mother of Tim van den Boor (27) who was shot dead on Thursday evening on the Larixplein in Waalwijk, blames the police: “A big mistake by the arrest team, my son didn’t stand a chance.”

The arrest team wanted to arrest Tim in a drug trafficking investigation. Why the team fired is being investigated by the National Criminal Investigation Department, who will not make any further announcements while the investigation is still ongoing.

Mother Jolande Oosterbaan tells what she thinks happened: “My son was in a car with his girlfriend in the parking lot of a flat in Waalwijk. Suddenly their car was surrounded by four cars with members of the arrest team. Then Tim was arrested by the police. shot through the windows of the car. His girlfriend was carried away with a bag over his head. My son was not even able to get out of the car.”

According to Jolande, nothing was found in the car. “The only thing that was found with his girlfriend are three bags of cocaine, probably for their own use. They went to smoke a pot in the car. You don’t kill someone for smoking a pot.”

The only thing Jolanda can think of is that her son tried to take his phone. “That could be interpreted by the arrest team as reaching for a weapon.” But she said no weapon was found in the car. “Tim was hit in the neck, among other things, and bled to death.” In all her emotion, she makes no bones about it: “This is murder and an execution.”

Jolanda does not know the reason for the possible arrest. “It would be an investigation into drug trafficking. He would apparently associate with certain people. But if so, then you get him out of the car and bring him handcuffed to the police station? Now he hasn’t even got a chance to turn himself to resist or to flee.” Jolande does not believe that her son dealt in drugs: “He didn’t even have any money in his pocket.”

Immediately after the shooting, Tim was resuscitated. Despite all medical assistance, he died on the spot from his injuries. “Since then I’ve been in a movie, it’s so unreal. The funeral is Thursday. I want to keep him with me as long as possible,” says Jolande.

The family has now engaged a lawyer. A crowdfunding campaign for the funeral costs has already raised around 4,500 euros.
