The children returned to Norway
On Thursday evening, Nettavisen could reveal that the children are returning to Norway. They are reunited with their father after 664 days since the kidnapping. This was confirmed by legal aid attorney Sjaak Haaheim to Nettavisen.
– Father is traveling to Norway with the boys already this evening. I have asked the police here in Norway to be extra vigilant in the future. We cannot ignore that the mother’s support group can come up with something. The group has been very active in Iceland. We want to ensure that father and child feel safe and have a peaceful Christmas, says Haaheim.

Earlier this week, the child’s mother appeared in Telemark District Court, accused of child abduction. There, the mother made it clear that she would do everything for the children to remain in Iceland.
After the main hearing ended on Wednesday, the mother asked to be released. She wanted to go home to celebrate Christmas, among other things, with the children she had abducted.
It won’t be like this.
Remanded in custody until after the New Year
In the ruling from the Telemark district court, it appears that the mother’s request for a Christmas celebration with the family will not be granted.
“The defendant was remanded in custody for four weeks until 30 December 2023. The main hearing was held on 19 and 20 December 2023. The court assumes that the grounds for imprisonment are now strprl §185, first paragraph, last sentence, which states that the accused can be held in prison until until judgment has been handed down if the main hearing has begun when the prison term expires. The court has announced that a verdict in the case is expected to be available during the first week of January 2024”.
As a result, she must sit in prison until after the New Year.
The court believes that there is “a strong degree of probability that she will be guilty of continued evasion of care or new similar offences, if she is released.”
