NEW YORK – New York police have identified the mother who died after crashing her son at high speed on a scooter in Brooklyn.
Winter King, 32, and her 6-year-old son were thrown from a scooter after colliding with a pickup truck. None were wearing protective helmets, police said.
Authorities say the 32-year-old driver of an SUV was pulling out of a driveway on Dean Street in Crown Heights just before 6:30 p.m. when an MTA bus stopped to allow him onto Troy Avenue. authorities said.
King missed the bus when it collided with the Ford Escape pickup.
King and her son were taken to Interfaith Medical Center, where the mother was pronounced dead. Police say King had suffered a severe head injury. The boy sustained cuts to his face and remained hospitalized Thursday but is expected to recover.
New York police said neither he nor his mother were wearing helmets when they were thrown from the scooter.
The Ford driver was not injured and remained at the scene.
Police say their investigation is ongoing.
