Two women were shot this afternoon in the parking lot of a shopping center in Zwijndrecht, the Rotterdam police reported. One of them was killed and her daughter was seriously injured.
Police are still looking for the perpetrator, who fled in a car after the shooting. The man’s identity has not been released.

Around 2 p.m., the police received several reports that shots were fired in the parking lot of the Walburg shopping center on the Hof van Holland street. Once on the scene, the emergency services tried to resuscitate one of the two women, but to no avail. The other woman was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
A trace investigation was carried out at the shopping center this afternoon. Several witnesses were also heard and camera images secured. “It’s Saturday afternoon and it’s a busy shopping center so there were a lot of people out and about,” said a spokesman. “Unfortunately, a lot of people have witnessed it.”
The mayor of Zwijndrecht, Hein van der Loo, tells ANP news agency that residents of the place are “incredibly shocked” by the shooting. “A fatal shooting incident, in broad daylight, a busy Saturday afternoon at the Walburg shopping center with a lot of shoppers. Quite a few people witnessed the incident as bystanders,” said Van der Loo. He has expressed his support to the relatives.
