The victim statements of the mother and two brothers of the killed Vigo were announced by the lawyer of the victims on Monday at an introductory hearing before the court in Alkmaar.
Escape routes obstructed
How horrific the fire on November 2 last year at the Zomerzon in Assendelft was, it became clear when the public prosecutor said that Martijn den B. had “obstructed the escape routes from his family’s home.” Mr. N. Linotte said after the hearing that the surviving family members are struggling after these “very violent events.”
In court, she announced on behalf of the mother and two surviving children that these victims will make a “significant” claim for damages. According to the judiciary, the fire started by Den B., the mother and three sons were seriously injured. 14-year-old Vigo succumbed to his injuries a few days after the fire.
Defrauding employer
Den B. is not only prosecuted for the murder and attempted murder of the other family members, but also for defrauding his employer, an oil company, for an amount of between 1.7 and 2 million euros. The public prosecutor wants to prosecute Den B. not only for murder but also for “embezzlement in employment.” Den B.’s wife would have known about this case.
Den B. was not present at the hearing. The case continues after reporting on the observation in the PBC on July 26.
