Motagua freezes in Canada and lets out the win against Forge FC in the Concacaf League

Ontario, Canada.

Motagua squandered a good two-goal lead and ended up losing a 2-2 draw against Forge FC in Canada in the first leg of the Concacaf League semi-finals.

The Motagüense team got ahead on the scoreboard in the 43rd minute, taking advantage of the fact that the locals were with one less on the field due to the injury of one of their defenses.

Omar Elvir raised the center, combed Marco Tulio Vega at the near post, Kevin López lowered the ball and shot the Canadian goalkeeper Triston Henry with his left foot to unleash the joy of the Blues.

Motagua increased the difference in 64 ‘in a set piece. Diego Auzqui took a free kick and defender Marcelo Pereira surprised with a header, sending the ball into the back of the net.

Those led by coach Diego Vázquez already know what it is like to be in these instances: in the 2018 and 2019 tournament they reached the semis consecutively, and in both they reached the final.

The Canadian team discounted in the 83rd minute through Costa Rican Joshua Navarro, who beat Jonathan Rougier with a header after a corner.

As the duel ended, Rougier rebounded a shot and midfielder Kwame Awuah took advantage of the draw to tie it 2-2 in the 93rd minute.

Visiting goals are worth double in case of equality in goal difference, so scoring has been key for the blue team.

The catracho club remains undefeated in the contest. In four games he has three wins and a draw. And incidentally ended the unbeaten home of Forge FC.

El Forge already knows what it’s like to face Honduran teams. In 2019 they beat Olimpia at home 1-0. In 2020 he lost to Marathón, but this duel was in Tegucigalpa, always for the same tournament.
