Most want to get vaccinated against the flu

In the first week of vaccination against influenza in the elderly, the country applied about 7,000 doses, setting up tents in hospitals, in the health area and in provincial offices to facilitate access to priority groups to be vaccinated.

Although the vaccine is available in the private sector, at the state level the country has 475,000 doses to be applied free of charge to people considered to be at higher risk, such as those under five, those over 65, pregnant women, healthcare workers and people with underlying diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, HIV-AIDS and cancer, among others.

The director of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), Lucía Vargas, reported that the vaccine is available in the 1,400 permanent places established nationally, but will also allow places in the different maternity hospitals, in the area and provincial health directorates for a greater access.

He called on pregnant women to get vaccinated and explained that along with the elderly, children and people with comorbidities, they are the groups that could have the greatest health complications from the flu. “As a country and as a Ministry we are giving a prompt response, essentially to the priority population,” she said.
