Economist Geert Noels says the blame behind the disappointment and frustration among the people after the introduction of stricter measures mainly lies with the government itself. “Not only Covid-19, bad management is also contagious”, he writes in a tweet.
“There is no evidence of restaurants that they contributed substantially to the virus”, Geert Noels tells Het Laatste Nieuws. “And yet they are punished the hardest. And I think that’s the underlying frustration that’s very strong. A lot of people have made enormous efforts in terms of behavior. But many companies have also made investments and efforts. ” Noels thinks it is impossible that these people who do well are punished over and over again. “And that creates enormous frustration”, he continues. “This is because a number of essential matters are never adjusted. Closing the entire country because of bad governance is a breeding ground for frustration. ”

1. Require a mouth mask in busy places
2. Ventilation – open air
3. Require and monitor quarantine
4. The app is not even listed … should be tool
Most restaurants, theme parks are better organized than the country.– Geert Noels (@GeertNoels) October 23, 2020
“We all bear the consequences of malgoverno Brussels, reckless bars, a few sports clubs, travelers, etc. Good management is not rewarded, bad management is not penalized and adjusted”, Noels writes on Twitter. “Most restaurants and amusement parks are better organized than the country.”

“They have to be strict on the right things”, he continues. “For example on quarantine, face masks, ventilation… And then you can give more freedom. Now there are strict measures where you can have more freedom, such as exercising outside. That is a completely nonsensical policy. We miss the lack of refinement and lessons learned, which other countries are now doing successfully. Belgium comes out worst in all rankings, in both the first and second wave. ”
