Most Popular Car Colors in the United States in 2023: White and Black Dominate Market

Jakarta

The search engine and car research page, iSeeCars, conducted research on the most popular car colors in the United States in 2023. Primary colors such as red, green and blue are far from number one and the color palette that people are interested in is monochrome.

Research conducted by iSeeCars on car sales data in the United States in 2023 shows that white dominates the market by 26.2%. Within a few percentage points, black dominates 21.8% of the new car market in the United States.

Meanwhile, at number three, there is gray which controls 19.2% of the new car market and one number below it is silver with 11.7%. The only non-monochrome color that is in the top five of the list of most popular car colors in the United States is blue with 9.7%.

Interestingly, iSeeCars compared data with the car colors that are popular with the people of the United States over five years. From the data they released, it can be seen that the list of the top 3 is still the same, namely white, black and gray. However, there was a change in position between 1 and 2, where in 2018 black was chosen more often.

“While white, black, gray and silver remain the dominant colors, it will be interesting to see how far silver declines,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer in a report.

“Silver is now only 2 percentage points above blue, which replaced red as the fifth most popular color (in 2018),” he continued.

Interestingly, there is a non-monochrome color that is currently on the market, namely beige. If detikers are not familiar with this color, then the reference is to the Honda HR-V or Suzuki XL7 which brought beige to their list.

According to iSeeCars, this beige or cream color has been the preferred color for several limited production SUVs in the last 5 years. This is what makes it now in demand and has increased in value from 0.3% in 2018 to 0.4% in 2023 and from 11th to 10th place.

Apart from beige, purple, green and blue are also seeing an increase in interest. Meanwhile, the colors that experienced a decrease in interest from 2018 to 2023 were red, brown, gold and yellow.

“Notice the shift from red to blue as the most popular non-monochrome color for hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs,” says Brauer.

“Two of these are high-volume segments, which explains why blue overall surpassed red as the most popular non-monochrome color,” concluded Brauer.
