Most inexperienced basketball players in the Latvian national team will prepare for the tournament in Tallinn / Article / LSM.lv

As the Latvian national team prepares for the tournament scheduled for the second half of July in Tallinn, most of the candidates include basketball players with no experience in the national team, according to the Latvian Basketball Union (LBS).

The head coach of the national team Roberts Štelmahers named 16 players who will prepare for the centenary tournament of Estonian basketball “Baltic Way” scheduled for July 24-26 in Tallinn. Three national teams from the Baltic States are invited to participate in the tournament.

The most experienced candidate in the national team is Kaspars Bērziņš, who has participated in 118 games in the national team shirt. Aigars Šķēle, who has played in 38 national teams, has also responded to the invitation, and four more applicants have experience in the national team, although only Artis Ate has played more than 10 games in the national team.

Since the beginning of June, the candidates of the national unit have been training at the Olympic Center in Riga and preparing for the next season. The choice of line-up for the tournament in Tallinn has been influenced by the players’ commitment to clubs, health status and individual preparation plans.

Stelmacher said that the team had an interesting work cycle, which was attended by both well-known players and new talents. “I was able to get to know their level of skill, understanding of basketball, work ethic and attitude,” LTT quoted Ltelmaher. “The tournament in Tallinn will be a good opportunity to assess the basketball players’ ability to apply what they have learned in training in the conditions of the game, as well as opportunities to help the national team in shorter or longer game fragments.”

In the remaining time until the tournament, the Latvian national team will continue to prepare to show the best possible performance in Tallinn. The game against the Lithuanians for the Latvian national team is scheduled for July 25, but a day later we have to meet the hostess Estonia.
