International Director of the Department of wines and alcoholic beverages Christie Tim Tiptree said, space wine was ripened in a unique environment, which is close to zero gravity above the space station.

The experience increased the price of the wine very drastically, from its original price of US $ 10,000 per bottle (Rp.144 million). The wine is loved for its complexity, black cherry flavor, cigar box, and ripeness.

“It’s a wine that has the ability to age tremendously, that’s why it was chosen for this experiment. It is very gratifying that I feel good when I return to earth, ”said Tiptree, quoted from Channel News Asia.

Startup private space Space Cargo Unlimited sent grapes into orbit in November 2019 to make Earth’s plants more resilient to climate change and disease, by exposing them to new pressures. Researchers also want to better understand the aging process, fermentation, and inner bubbles wine.

During a taste test in March at the Wine and Wine Research Institute in Bordeaux, France, a dozen wine connoisseurs compared one wine traveling in space to a bottle of wine stored in a cellar. They noted differences that were difficult to explain.

Jane Anson, a writer with the wine publication Decanter, says the wines remaining on Earth taste a little younger. The outer space version is slightly softer and more aromatic.

In the sales package, Christie offers a bottle of Petrus, a bottle of wine, a glass and a bottle opener made of meteroite. Everything is packaged in handcrafted wood with decorations inspired by science fiction pioneer Jules Verne and the Star Trek Universe.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to fund research on Space Cargo Unlimited. Some of the other bottles taken into space are still stuck, but Christie has no plans to sell them.

According to Tiptree, 1 million US dollars is a price that will attract the attention of wine connoisseurs, space enthusiasts, and wealthy people who want to experience a different sensation.

“I hope they will decide to drink it, but maybe not immediately. “This wine will probably last at least another two or three decades,” concluded Tiptree.
