Mosquitoes invade a man’s property after the storm

After the rains the mosquitoes arrive, a resident asks for help from the competent authorities, since he says that the same thing happens after each storm.

Eddie Olivares Hidalgo County Health Department Administrator says that 80% of mosquito control can be managed or controlled by the community doing their part from their own home.

“We know there is water that collects in certain neighborhoods and areas and we are targeting those areas,” Olivarez said. “Your garden, your backyard, your house, you are responsible for that and you need to remove standing water.”

Olivarez said the county’s Sprayer Control Task Force has also been working hard since Wednesday’s storm to combat mosquitoes.

Olivarez says that using larvicides is the most effective way to fight mosquitoes because it kills them even before they hatch. They are also spraying across the county.

But when it comes to private property, there is nothing they can do.

Olivarez recommends investing in a fumigator or other type of mosquito prevention for your home, something Torres says he plans to do immediately.
