Lovely that Dutch summer, but that warm and humid weather often also entails a mosquito invasion. And that makes us less happy. The buzzing bugs are especially annoying at night. They feed on your blood and then you sit under the itchy mosquito bumps. Have you been stabbed? This is what you can do against the itch from a mosquito bump.
Whether at home or on vacation, being stung by a mosquito is not nice. Have you ever tried to repel mosquitoes? You can read more about it in our article “You can do this to prevent being punctured by mosquitoes”.
Fortunately, if you are stung there are enough tips and tricks to ease the itch. With home, garden and kitchen remedies, with natural spreads or “just” with your own saliva:
1. Cross
The easiest and fastest way to get rid of the itch, and it can be done anywhere and anytime, is to make a cross with your nails. The pressure seems to neutralize the itching.
2. Saliva
Another thing you always have with you: saliva. The itching subsides by smearing this on the bump. Other home, garden and kitchen remedies are salt, vinegar and butter.
3. Menthol
Cream or powder that contains menthol cools and removes the itch from a mosquito bump. For example, spread a little bit of toothpaste or tiger balm on the bump. Or menthol powder.
4. Plantain
First aid for mosquito bites along the road: look for the plantain. This plant often grows near stinging nettles, so be careful not to get bumps from it. Pinch a leaf of the plantain and spread the good that comes out on the mosquito bumps. Away itching, away swelling. Do you have hay fever? Then plantain is a less good option. Plantain causes hay fever complaints.
5. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera also has a soothing effect. Cut off a piece of the stem of the succulent plant and spread the “gel” over the bump.
6. Lavender
Mosquitoes don’t like the scent of lavender, so putting some lavender oil on your pillow isn’t a luxury before you go to sleep. In addition, the oil is soothing and has a healing effect, so feel free to spread it on mosquito bumps.
7. Lemon
Citric acid softens, so put a slice of lemon where you put it.
You should not do this when you are stabbed
Scratch! Do not touch the itchy bump. As long as you don’t scratch, the mosquito bump will disappear quickly. You couldn’t resist? Then apply one of the above tips.
