Mosolf has recently officially presented its new electric vehicle transport service and is marketing the service under the name “Emission-free vehicle delivery in Baden-Württemberg”. The new concept was presented in the presence of Baden-Württemberg Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) at the Illingen site, where up to six electric car transporters are now in service, before another six are added at the beginning of next year.
“With the introduction of the new service product, we are underlining our commitment to more sustainable transport solutions,” says Dr. Jörg Mosolf, CEO of the Group. “This gives our customers the opportunity to operate in an even more environmentally friendly and efficient manner. The new product is part of our corporate strategy, which includes the transformation of our truck fleet to low-CO2 drive technologies.”
“Climate-neutral freight transport is no longer a thing of the future, even on the road. As a state, we will support companies in implementing it,” stressed Transport Minister Winfried Hermann. As part of the KsNI funding, which has since been discontinued, the procurement of the electric car transporters and the necessary charging infrastructure was funded with around 2.1 million euros.
The accompanying press release does not mention which brand Mosolf has chosen for its electric car transporters. However, when presenting the new offer on site, those responsible posed in front of a model from Designwerk. It has been known for a good year that the company operates three fully electric car transporters from this manufacturer. However, it has not been confirmed whether the other units are also from Designwerk.
When Mosolf introduced the Swiss manufacturer’s trio based in Düsseldorf last year, there was already talk of pushing ahead with the development of charging infrastructure at several of Mosolf’s branches – which already suggested at the time that the three fully electric car transporters were just the beginning. Smatrics is on board as the technology partner for the chargers. The locations mentioned at the time were Illingen, Gößnitz, Ketzin, Kirchheim, Kippenheim, Schöneck and Zörbig. According to the company’s information at the time, a total of up to 42 charging points were planned.
The trio presented in 2023 are 4x2R car transporters that were developed and designed by the Swiss company Designwerk Technologies AG in cooperation with the vehicle transporter specialist Kässbohrer Transport Technik GmbH. The model is based on a basic chassis of the Volvo FM. With a battery capacity of 340 kilowatt hours, the car carriers can cover up to 280 kilometers, according to the manufacturer. Last year, Designwerk stated that the drive power was 500 kW, and the empty weight was 8.75 tons after electrification or 10.71 tons with a body (but without a trailer).
