Al-Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane said that the team did not believe in its ability to win during the first half against Zamalek due to the players ’anxiety that the players had been absent from the tournament for seven consecutive years.
Al-Ahly won the Champions League for the first time after the 2013 edition, which recorded the last appearance of the African princess in the Red Castle, after which the Horn of Africa champion failed to win the title in two consecutive finals in 2017 and 2018.
Musimani added to Al-Ahly channel, “I did not give a lecture between the two halves of the meeting, to sit in a separate room and leave Al-Shennawi as the team leader to talk with his colleagues and motivate them to win the title.”
And then he continued, “Then I carried the banner and spoke after Al-Shenawi’s lecture. I told them that we have to change something that has happened in the past seven years.”
The South African explained, “Success in Al-Ahly comes from respecting customs, traditions, and culture, even religion. You must engage in the place and become a part of it to convince those around you that you are a member of them and then obtain their confidence, and this is what I did with my team.”
“You are in the greatest club in Africa. You have to deal according to its traditions, endure pressure and achieve its goals. I came here and touched the insistence on crowning the championship.”
He ended, “If you cannot bear the pressures and circumstances facing you, then you do not deserve to train Al-Ahly Club.”
