Can you imagine a competition where the FC Pange faces big names in European football such as Juventus de Turin or theInter Milan ?
Incredible but true, the Moselle club took part in it… and even won it! Unfortunately, it did not take place in the field. The Pangeois will therefore not have met Cristiano Ronaldo in an official match …
The competition won by FC Pange is quite different. Organized by the humorous page of the French Federation of Lose (FFL), this aimed to crown … the worst coat of arms in football. Another competition won by the Moselle!
“A cow with the body of a soccer ball”
The FFL launched this “competition” on Tuesday March 30 on its pages Facebook and Twitter. 16 clubs were selected and internet users had to vote for what they thought was the worst.
With her cow on the logo, FC Pange has left no one indifferent! This is how the club was described before the first leg against the Girondins of Bordeaux, modest club of League 1 who will not have resisted.
To our left, Goliath, FC Pange. Valorous good last of group F of D3 senior of the Moselle football district, FC Pange arrives with a quite exceptional coat of arms. A cow with a soccer ball body. And the height of good taste, the Telstar of the 1970 World Cup, not a vulgar Jabulani (the 2010 World Cup ball in South Africa, Editor’s note). Stopped since the health crisis, FC Pange is the favorite for this competition.
After inflicting another defeat on the FC Nantes, which is definitely going through a complicated season, FC Pange beat the club Calais, who will not succeed in the new feat of qualifying for a final, as they did in the Coupe de France in 2000.
The final pitted the Moselle club against Lincoln City FC, English third division club, symbolized by a kind of elf, from a local legend.
“Forever the first”
After 9 264 votes in a fierce final, FC Pange won with 63 % votes this Friday evening. The “soccer ball cow with ant legs” was crowned by the many followers of the page, which “rewards” the failures of French sport. “Forever the first,” commented the FFL, referring to the victory of Olympique de Marseille in the European Cup in 1993.
A handsome player, FC Pange was not upset to have been put in the spotlight in this way, on the contrary. “Good publicity stunt for our little campaign club because we are more and more followed on social networks”, he reacted at first.
Finally, to end with a sporting metaphor, “for the history of the club, I announce that this is our first European prize”, concluded FC Pange in its publication. “What love for you, your logo is absolutely wonderful,” replied the FFL.
“A highlight that amateur football is not used to having”
The humorous parenthesis seems welcome in a difficult context for amateur clubs. The Covid-19 caused stoppage of competitions at the lower levels of French football.
FC Pange, contacted by Lorraine News, is also greatly satisfied with “a real highlight that amateur football is not used to having”.
The club hopes that “the little smile of our cow will make Lorraine smile”, in particular “in this difficult period”.
