“We talk about bullying at school but bullying is everywhere: in sports clubs, specialized institutes, on social networks…” The general director of the Moselle association for educational and social action in an open environment (AAESEMO ) knows the subject. Sophie Maurice-Pluchon worked in child psychology and today continues to measure the ravages of harassment on children and teenagers.

The association is obviously mobilizing around National Harassment Day, November 9. “But we have to work on this problem every day,” notes Sophie Maurice-Pluchon. AAESEMO has been established in Thionville for almost a year. The premises are located in the Linkling area, next to Geric, rue de l’Equerre.

To care for, to accompany, to help

“After an initial telephone interview, a specialized educator, coordinator of the association’s harassment department, receives people in person within 24 hours,” assures the director. Here, it’s about being heard, understood, believed. Individual follow-ups are offered. Both for the victims and for the aggressors or spectators. “We must take into consideration all the collateral damage that harassment can cause, in the family, in those around us,” adds Sophie Maurice-Pluchon.

AAESEMO wants to go beyond prevention and testimony. She intends to care for, support, help the bullied young person to rebuild themselves, to defend themselves. It has just signed an agreement with the judicial protection of youth to subsidize its actions with minors monitored by the justice system.

Also take care of the attackers

The association travels to private, public, professional establishments, inclusive classes, sports structures which request it. The action is divided into several stages. The awareness-raising speech gives way to anti-harassment workshops, “educational games, virtual reality headsets which project the harasser into the position of the victim”. A conference closes the cycle. “Each measure is personalized according to the situation,” specifies the director.

“We received a call from a dad whose son is a bully. The psychological medical center was saturated, he wanted his son to be monitored in relation to his behavior,” greets Sophie Maurice-Pluchon. “Behind every bully, there is a kid in pain. All children must be protected. »
