MOSCOW – Russian intelligence claims to have foiled a sophisticated plan of Ukrainian spies to hijack several military fighter jets.

A security official and a Russian pilot, who are said to have been targeted by Ukrainian spy agencies, have shared details of the operation on RT.com.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) sensationally claimed a prominent figure from the US government-funded investigative organization Bellingcat, which presents itself as a journalistic group, was also involved in the scheme.

“The plan is believed to be overseen by NATO intelligence services,” the FSB statement said, specifically pointing the finger at British intelligence operations.

The FSB explained that Russian pilots were promised passports from EU member states, and a large cash reward for participating in the plot.

At the start of the ongoing conflict, Ukraine compiled a list of Russian military hardware, using publicly available information.

They promised a monetary reward for potential defectors who managed to bring the military equipment.

The more elaborate the weapons, the better the rewards promised, with fighter planes, helicopters and tanks earning the highest payouts of up to $1 million.
