Moscow, Dec. 21, LETA. Latvian women’s basketball club “TTT Rīga” on Tuesday in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Euroleague match with the result 68:61 (22:15, 13:11, 16:17, 17:18) beat the Moscow MBA.
The victory allows the Rigans to stabilize in the best six of Group A and look forward to the continuation of the Eurocup season after the subgroup tournament.
Ieva Pulvere stood out in the ranks of “TTT Rīga” with 20 points and six assists, 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists were Jessina Tomasa, Vanessa Jasa scored ten points, but 11 rebounds were won by Daugele.
Anna Leškovceva was the most productive in the MBA unit with 17 points.
“TTT Rīga” with four wins in ten games in Group A has strengthened in fifth place, but the Moscow team is the seventh of eight teams with two successes and eight losses.
The opponents started the match successfully, quickly taking the lead with 8: 2, but then the guests responded with three long shots in a row and scored a total of 14 points in the breakthrough. After ten minutes played, the team led by Mārtiņš Gulbs had a seven-point advantage (22:15), but before the halftime break, the Latvian team plus nine points (35:26).
The powder’s long-range shot in the middle of the third quarter gave the Rigans a 14-point lead for the first time (48:34), but before the final quarter, the teams scored eight points – 51:43. Already in the first minute of the fourth quarter, Šarauskaite earned her fifth note and the match was closed, but three and a half minutes before the end of the regular time, Pulvere left for the same reason.
Viešņas were now without a captain, so it was left to Jürgen Schneider to take the captain’s armband. Jasa then threw two “penalties” and a long shot, once again 14 points (67:53), but in the last few minutes the Muscovites did not play significantly.
The Rigans started the second lap with a 60:75 loss to the away team against Yekaterinburg UGMK, followed by a loss at home to Salamanca’s Perfumerias Avenida, conceding with a result of 51:71.
The Moscow team, meanwhile, also started the second round with a loss to the Salamanca team with a score of 69:77. In the last game, the Muscovites with the result 61:92 acknowledged the superiority of the Prague ZVVZ USK.
“TTT Rīga” won the first team match with 64:59 at home. The most successful in this match with 19 points was Jessmine Thomas.
The main tournament of the Euroleague will end on February 1, 2022. The top four teams in each group will qualify for the playoffs, while the fifth and sixth place winners will continue in the European Cup.
The UGMK of Ekaterinburg became the champions last season, winning the “Perfumerias Avenida” of Salamanca in the final.
Last season, TTT Rīga lost all six games in the Euroleague Main Event and did not qualify for the playoffs. The tournament was held on a “bubble” basis in two runs, but this season the teams have returned to their usual format. The modest result is largely due to a lack of practice, as the team was unable to play the match from the beginning of November due to an emergency. In order to get a practice, TTT Rīga decided to play in the European Women’s Basketball League in the middle of December, where they managed to win bronze.
“TTT Rīga” also won the Latvian Women’s Basketball League for the eighth time in a row and for the 20th time in the history of the club.
