Russia has dropped out of the fight to host the remaining matches of the 2019/20 Champions League, says Bild.

UEFA plans to finish the tournament in one city because of the coronavirus pandemic, which violated the usual calendar of the season. The venue for the mini-tournament will be announced on June 17.

To host Champions League matches claimed Frankfurt (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal) and Moscow (Russia).

The candidacy of Moscow was dropped first due to the large number of cases of infection with COVID-19.

Champions League is expected to finish out in Lisbon. There were no Portuguese clubs left in the tournament, and German teams in Germany would have gained an advantage. In addition, Portugal is suitable for several other requirements – several stadiums in the city, a controlled number of cases of coronavirus infection.

UEFA wants to hold the Champions League from the 1/4 finals in four stadiums within a radius of 100 km. Teams will determine the winner of the pair in one meeting. It was planned that the Champions League will finish the game from August 8 to 29.

Germany now intends to host a mini-tournament with decisive matches of the Europa League.

In Russia, 459 thousand detected cases of COVID-19 are the third result in the world after the United States and Brazil, 5,725 people died.

In Germany, 186 thousand were infected, 8,767 people died. In Portugal, 34,351 confirmed cases, 1,474 – deaths.
