Moscow fighter jets intercept and escort three US bombers near Russian border

MOSCOW – Military Russia stated that four Russian fighter jets had been deployed to escort three B-52Н bombers belonging to United States of America (USA) . The three US bombers were intercepted as they approached the Russian border.

According to Russia’s National Defense Control Center, Russian airspace control devices detected three air targets approaching the country’s airspace over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea.

“In order to identify air targets and prevent their illegal entry into Russian airspace, two pairs of MiG-31 and Su-35 fighter aircraft of the air defense forces of the Eastern Military District took off,” the Russian National Defense Control Center said.

“Russian fighter jets identified the air targets as B-52H strategic bombers of the US Air Force Global Strike Command and escorted them over the Bering Sea.”

Russia said it had repeatedly reported increased activity of NATO aircraft near its borders and warned that such actions by the bloc near the country’s territory could result in serious incidents.
