Agreements on the construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline were reached in December 2014. Initially, capacities of 63 billion cubic meters of gas per year were planned, of which 16 billion cubic meters were intended for Turkey, and 47 billion cubic meters – for the gas hub on the Turkish-Greek border. In October of this year Gazprom chief Alexey Miller said the company is currently limiting construction on two sections of Turkish Stream because Europe could shut down Nord Stream 2. Then it was also announced that due to the lack of an established government in Turkey at that time, the negotiations on the signing of the intergovernmental agreement were being postponed. On October 7, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, Alexander Medvedev, allowed an extension of the deadline for the implementation of the project until the end of 2017.

The construction of the 4-reactor Akkuyu NPP with a capacity of 4,800 MW off Turkey’s southern coast in Mersin province is another of the two countries’ major energy projects. Its total value is 22 billion dollars, at this stage Russia has invested about 3 billion dollars. Turkish specialists will work at the nuclear power plant, Russia provides a chance for Turkish students to receive professional education at its universities. In addition, the share of Turkish participation in the project may reach 40%, equivalent to an amount of 8-10 billion dollars. commissioning of the first unit of the NPP is scheduled for 2020.
