Moscow Court Extends Arrest of US Consulate Ex-Employee for Collecting Information on Russia

In Moscow, the Lefortovo Court extended the arrest of the detained ex-employee of the US Consulate General Robert Shonov for another three months. Shonov admitted that he had collected information in Russia about the course of the special operation at the request of American diplomats. This was reported in the press service of the court.

“By the decision of the Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow, the petition of the investigation to extend the arrest of Shonov for three months, that is, until November 23, was granted,” TASS reports.

During interrogation, Russian Robert Shonov said that he was approached by employees of the American embassy. They were interested in information about such resonant events in Russia as the SVO, mobilization, and the upcoming presidential elections. Shonov was required to provide negative data. He was also asked to find journalists, politicians or businessmen who could also collect information about Russia on behalf of the United States in the future.

Former US Consulate General Robert Shonov detained in Vladivostok. He was charged under Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state”).
