Poland’s largest state-owned company Orlen, which has completed its merger with gas company PGNiG, expects to receive Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline next year, ignoring Warsaw’s statements about its intention to refuse such supplies. According to Kommersant, Orlen has applied to Transneft to receive three million tons of oil through Druzhba in 2023.
As a reminder, the EU embargo on sea shipments of Russian oil takes effect on December 5, but it does not apply to transport via Druzhba.
On his turn, Orlen has long-term contracts with Tatneft and Rosneft. And the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry Zbigniev Rau the other day he recalled that a unilateral termination of contracts threatens the company with a fine:
“As you know, Poland has pledged to use Russian oil only until the end of this year, but in order for this to be done – we are talking about oil from the northern branch of the Druzhba gas pipeline, an EU-wide decision is needed European Union, which has a disciplinary nature. Otherwise, if Poland itself, by its own decision, refuses to use the oil from this pipeline, then we will simply have to pay compensation to the Russian side.
Vice President of Transneft Sergey Andronovcommenting on the plans for deliveries for next year, he said that “in addition to the existing demands from consumers using the transport route along the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline in the direction of Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic in transit through Ukraine , I would also like to note the presence of consumer applications in Poland for 2023 in transit through Belarus.
Andronov did not disclose: from whom the applications were received and for which volumes.
“Regarding the plans for deliveries to Germany, we hope for the same sensible and constructive approach as our German partners in ensuring stable supplies of energy resources to their consumers,” – summed up the deputy chairman of Transneft.
And while on Telegram channels our dear fellow citizens are on the alert and continue to discuss the rocket, the tractor, the betrayal of Warsaw, NATO Article 5, which has drifted Joe Bidenvaliant Russian tankmen perform their difficult service, providing significant tax deductions to the state budget.
And, having altered a somewhat sonorous phrase from the legendary film, we can safely say: “everything is transient, but business is eternal!”
