Moscow and Beijing agree to expand military cooperation

Russia and China will continue to expand their military cooperation, Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said today, according to the TASS news agency.

Gerasimov invited his Chinese counterpart to visit Russia, news agencies reported.

“The practice of joint operational and combat training of the Russian and Chinese armed forces should remain an important area of ​​further activities,” Gerasimov was quoted as saying.

In Beijing, the Ministry of Defense announced that the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of China’s Central Military Commission held talks today via video conference with the Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the Chinese statement, Liu Zhenli and Valery Gerasimov exchanged views on deepening cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.

Russia will be invited to participate in a military exercise organized by the Chinese side, the statement added.
