Developer Cold Symmetry opens the PC beta of its Souls-esque game Mortal Shell to all players. The beta was previously announced as a closed test. According to the makers, the trial version does not contain spoilers for the full game.
According to the developer, the demand for participation in the beta is so great, that is decided to make it freely accessible. Interested parties can find the trial version in the Epic Games Store, which is the platform where the final PC version will also appear for thirty euros in the third quarter of this year. The game will arrive sometime in 2021 to Steam.
Beta will have two Mortal Shells available to players. These are characters in the game with unique fighting abilities that the player can take over. The game gets a total of four such shells. In June, Cold Symmetry first showed gameplay and the developer explained about the game.
The beta version does not contain any spoilers. “We keep the story of the game a secret for a while,” say the creators. The game world is also protected, so that players cannot discover everything yet. The developer warns that the game is made for fans of Souls-esque games, and highly experienced players can finish the beta in about an hour. For others it will take ‘much longer’.
Mortal Shell was announced in early April. The game was created by a hitherto unknown studio, Cold Symmetry, which was founded in 2017. Behind the scenes, the game has been underway for two years. The makers get their inspiration from games like Dark Souls. The final game should have about fifteen to twenty hours of gameplay. The game will also be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but there is no beta for the console versions.
