Mortal Online 2 has moved to Unreal Engine 5

Mortal Online 2 has moved to the Unreal Engine 5 and released version 2.0.0. The update is not only visual: in the process of work, the team had to rebuild and “repair” the game world, new zones and opportunities appeared.

Star Vault has noted the challenges associated with such a large overhaul and update, and they are currently working on some issues related to the patch. However, having reached this point and made such large-scale changes in their biggest patch, the developers thanked players for their patience and expressed positivity about the future of Mortal Online 2.

Unreal Engine 5 means the game will receive lighting improvements from Lumen, a new Temporal Super Resolution (which is similar to Nvidia DLSS) available on all supported GPUs. This way everything will look more realistic and have more dynamic lighting. However, there are still issues and player feedback will be important to evaluate performance and anything that may have been missed.

We were able to stabilize the frame rate so there was less stuttering, and in some cases even increased the overall FPS. Areas with a large number of characters, such as large battles, are still a challenge and will be a topic for future optimization.

This was all part of a deal that resulted in Star Vault receiving a grant from Epic Games and Mortal Online 2 appearing on the Epic Games Store.

Other changes in the patch, in addition to visual and world improvements, include useful features such as red killer names, new NPCs that will give out capes for completing quests, and a number of new zones.

One of the main additions is the division of the area into Protected Areas and Wilderness. You’ll be able to tell the two zones apart on the in-game map, and a message will appear when you enter or exit them. The wilderness is essentially a free space where you can be easily attacked without any consequences. Well, or you yourself can attack someone.
