Mortal Kombat 1, just like Mortal Kombat 11, will get a story expansion sometime in the near future. Mortal Kombat creator and creative director Ed Boon stated this in an interview during the Brazil CCXP23 event.
“Just like we did with [Mortal Kombat 11]we’re going to release a second part with more story and we have a big surprise after that. We’re going to be supporting the game for even longer than we did with Mortal Kombat 11,” adding that, “It’s going to be fun.”
Mortal Kombat 11 received an Aftermath story DLC that added several chapters of single player story to the game with some new playable characters. The story of Aftermath was also the beginning of the story of Mortal Kombat 1. The story DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 may also be a teaser for the story for Mortal Kombat 2. It is not known when this story DLC will be released. Aftermath was released a year after the release of Mortal Kombat 11. The story DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 may also be released a year after release. That will be sometime in September or October 2024.
Ed Boon has teased more in Brazil beyond new story DLC. After the DLC, fans can look forward to a big surprise, according to Boon. It is not known exactly what this will be. This may involve more playable characters or perhaps a new mode.
