The bad news continues to stick to Mortal Kombat 1 for Switch. After gamers lashed out at the graphics, complaining about framerate, bugs, glitches, long loading times, freezes, and even missing content, despite selling for $70 like on the big consoles, series creator Ed Boon promised a fix. Before that happened, another job surfaced. Fans noticed that in official launch trailer the switch version jumps into action at one point achievement from Steam. So it’s easy to assume that the video was taken from the PC version.
The notification from Steam appears at 1:52, and needless to say, players are naturally frustrated by the fact that the graphics and performance of the game in such a case can hardly represent the true form of the Switch port. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire trailer is shot on PC, but at least some of the footage is. The trailer mentions the phrase “Footage Not Final”, but does not point out that the footage was shot on different hardware.

Neither the developers nor the publisher have yet commented on the incident. However, the trailer has since been pulled from Nintendo’s official YouTube channel. You can still watch it, for example, below. While it’s not uncommon for trailer footage to sometimes not come from the same version of the game they’re presenting, this case is a glaring example of why it’s wrong. There is also a huge difference between what the game promises the customer and what they actually get. As you can imagine, before the video went down, players were pretty critical of it in the comments. Then how are they supposed to believe that the rest of the footage is actually from the Switch?
It is hard to believe that this is an unfortunate coincidence. Rather, it seems like an attempt to deliberately mislead a potential customer. Unfortunately for WB Games, someone approached the creation of the trailer as laxly as the optimization of the port itself. Whether you evaluate it as a fraud or an oversight, it’s bitterly funny that the publisher didn’t even bother to sweep away traces of the PC version in the trailer for the Switch.
