Mortal Kombat 1 Confirms the Return of Smoke and Rain as Playable Characters

Developer NetherRealm has announced the return of Smoke and Rain in Mortal Kombat 1 as playable characters, along with some familiar faces that will appear in the game.

Apart from this announcement, NetherRealm has so far confirmed a total of 10 playable characters in the upcoming title, including Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Kitana, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Mileena, Raiden, Scorpion, Shang Tsung (available via pre-order), and Sub-Zero.

Hitman Smoke will return, marking his first appearance in the main series since 2011’s Mortal Kombat reboot, and he’ll be joined by long-time veteran Rain, who appeared in Mortal Kombat 11 as one of the additional characters.

NetherRealm has also confirmed a number of characters that will be joining Mortal Kombat 1 via the Kameo Fighters system and include Cyrax, Frost, Scorpion, and Sektor.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently hinted that Mortal Kombat 4 fighters will appear in Mortal Kombat 1 Other big names include Havik from Mortal Kombat: Deception, Nitara from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and Li Mei who didn’t appear in the game mainline since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon in 2006.

The game will be released on September 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), and will be available for $69.99, $109.99 for the Premium version, and $249.99 for the Collector’s Edition.
