At last year’s World Cup in Qatar, Portugal surprisingly lost to the surprise team from Morocco (0:1). Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (38) shed bitter tears after the quarterfinals, which provided satisfaction on the other side.
Sofiane Boufal (29) played all seven games for Morocco, who were the first African team ever to advance to the semi-finals of a World Cup. The left winger’s fondest memories are of the quarter-final win over Portugal and Ronaldo’s emotional outburst.
Sofiane Boufal is happy about Cristiano tears
“With all due respect to him, I enjoyed seeing him cry instead of seeing us cry,” Boufal told Qatari sports channel Al-Kass. At the beginning of the year, the attacking player moved to the World Cup host country and has played for al-Rayyan FC ever since.
However, Boufal dreams of returning to Europe, where he had spent his entire career until January 2023. He immediately named a dream club – and in this context distributed again against CR7.

“I prefer Messi to Ronaldo and the club I want to play for is Barcelona,” said Boufal. At Barça, Lionel Messi (35) once rose to become a world star. The Argentine could move back to Catalonia this summer as his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires.
Should this happen, Boufal would only have to convince FC Barcelona of his own qualities in order to be on the pitch together with his great idol.
