Rabat – The Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, met on Wednesday in Rabat with the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Preaching of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdellatif Ben Abdulaziz Ben Abdurrahman Al Cheikh.
These talks focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two sister kingdoms in the service of Islam and Muslims, reject hate speech and extremism and consolidate the principles of moderation and tolerance among Muslims.
On this occasion, the Saudi minister expressed, in a statement to the press, his joy at the warm welcome and appreciation he received in Morocco, considering that “this is not surprising given the ties of affection which unite the brother kingdoms of Saudi Arabia and Morocco, as well as the good bilateral relations characterized by friendship and mutual respect.
And after commending the efforts made by the leaders of the two countries, the Custodian of the Two Holy Places of Islam, King Salman Ibn Abdelaziz Al-Saud, and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Saudi minister expressed his wish to realize the aspirations of both countries in the service of Islam and Muslims and to spread the principles of moderation, middle ground and tolerance while renouncing violence and extremism, underscoring his country’s concern to work for unity among Muslims, so that they can enjoy security, prosperity and stability wherever they are.
For his part, Mr. Toufiq affirmed that the visit of his Saudi counterpart, accompanied by a delegation of ulemas from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, comes at the invitation of the Superior Council of Ulemas of Morocco, in order to participate in a colloquium (May 18-19) under the theme “Contemporary theological efforts to ward off extremism and promote moderation”.
The Minister added that this seminar aims to examine the elements capable of allowing Muslims to protect themselves from extremist ideas, which all come from ignorance.
Mr. Toufiq said that the talks with his Saudi counterpart focused on religious issues and issues that concern the ulema in their capacity as heirs of the prophets.
He stressed that these issues are among the issues addressed by the two parties in the interest of the two brotherly nations and peoples under the leadership of HM the King, Amir Al Mouminin, and the Custodian of the Two Holy Places, King Salman Ibn Abdelaziz Al – Saud.
