King Mohammed VI did it from Rabat
The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, launched the national operation “Ramadan 1445” today in the Yaâcoub El Mansour neighborhood of Rabat. Launched by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, one million families, or almost 5 million people, will benefit.
Very significant in this blessed month, this act of generosity, which has become a tradition over its 25 years of existence, reflects the constant real concern for populations in situations of social vulnerability and establishes the values of humanity and solidarity, mutual help. and sharing, characteristics of Moroccan society.
Mobilizing a budget of 347 million dirhams, the “Ramadan 1445” operation, which involves the distribution of 34,550 tonnes of food products (flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, vermicelli, lentils and tea), aims to provide help and comfort to the most vulnerable social categories, in particular widows, the elderly and people with disabilities.
For this 25th edition, 82,040 beneficiary families come from the three provinces of Al Haouz, Taroudant and Chichaoua, affected by the earthquake of 8 September 2023.
The “Ramadan” operation has in fact grown in size in recent years, reaching the level of 1,000,000 beneficiary families in 2023 (473,900 in 2017 and 600,000 in 2020), established in 83 provinces and prefectures of the Kingdom and of which 74 % live in rural areas.
This national operation, organized with the financial support of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, is in line with the humanitarian program led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and aimed at providing support to those who have the most need, while promoting the culture of solidarity.
For the smooth running of this operation, thousands of people are mobilized, supported by social workers and volunteers, at the 1,304 distribution points set up throughout the national territory. They will ensure the delivery of food aid to heads of families and representatives of beneficiary families.
The implementation of this initiative is also subject to controls, in particular at the level of two committees, one local and the other provincial, which monitor the supply of the Distribution Centers in the area, the identification of the beneficiaries and the distribution of the goods food. The identification of beneficiaries, in fact, is subject, as every year, to field work carried out by local authorities, which allows the living conditions of these people and their current situation to be assessed on the basis of socio-economic criteria.
The social services of the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Ministry of Agriculture, Sea Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forestry, the Ministry of National Education, Nursery and Sport, Mutual Aid national, the National Promotion, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, and also the local authorities give their support to the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity to ensure the smooth functioning of this solidarity operation.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) ensure, for their part, the quality control of the food products distributed.
On this occasion, the monarch delivered, as a symbolic gesture, baskets of food to 10 heads or representatives of families benefiting from the “Ramadan 1445” operation, before posing for a souvenir photo with the volunteers who participate in this solidarity operation .
The national food support operation, since its launch in 1998, has mobilized an overall budget of over 2 billion dirhams, with the number of beneficiary families increasing from 34,100 in 1998 to one million as of 2023.
The “Ramadan 1445” operation thus adds to the various humanitarian actions and initiatives undertaken by Mohammed VI with the aim of promoting the culture of solidarity and ensuring inclusive and sustainable human development.
